Welcome to doDOC!
doDOC is a collaborative editor built from the ground up to help you and your colleagues while writing and reviewing scientific manuscripts, regulatory packages and, actually, any type of scientific and clinical document. The next sections will give you the basis to write and/or review your first document. Learn more at https://dodoc.zendesk.com
When you decide to review your document in doDOC (by clicking on the "Review in doDOC" link in iEnvision), a new tab will open with your doDOC document ready to start being edited and reviewed.
IMPORTANT:
- when you come to doDOC from iEnvision, Track Changes will be ON and Locked, which means that if you have permissions to edit the document, all your edits will be tracked and nobody can accept them, assuming that the Writer will do that once the review cycle in iEnvision is closed.
- when working in doDOC, every action you execute is automatically saved, that is why there is no Save button.
Permissions when getting to doDOC
Once you get to doDOC, you can have two different types of permissions:
- Edit: this means you can edit the contents of the document and add comments;
- Comment: this means that you can only comment on the document, but not edit the content.
Editing and reviewing your document
If you have Edit permissions, you can start immediately adding/removing content from the document. Since Track Changes is ON and Locked, all your changes will be tracked. You can reject your changes but nor accept them, and you cannot accept/reject other people's changes. This is to make sure that the Writer can make this decision after the end of the review cycle. You will find all the things you can insert in your document under the Insert menu in the top bar of the doDOC Editor:
- Tables
- Figures
- Comments
- References and cross-references
- Footnotes and endnotes
- Equations & Symbols
- Captions and hyperlinks
- ToCs, ToTs and ToFs
- Page and section breaks
- Tasks
Commenting on your document
Either with Edit or Comment permissions, you can select content in doDOC and insert a comment on it. To do that, either from the Insert menu or from the context menu (right click on a selection of content), you proceed to insert a comment in the location of the document of your interest.
IMPORTANT: Don't forget to click on the Create button in the comment card to apply the comment on the selection you made.
If there is a comment, track change or task in the document, you can add a comment to it, which creates a thread or discussion about that item, making it easy to follow how content evolves based on people's interactions.
Insert references
Of particular importance are the references that you can insert and manage in a document. To work with them, follow these steps:
1- Click Insert on the Menu Toolbar and then Reference OR click in the sidebar.
2- The References panel will appear.
3- Now, you are able to:
- Filter the references on the Library or on your Document, using the tabs.
- Open the References manager to:
a) Search references in your library.
b) Search references in PubMed and/or in Scopus.
c) Import references (Important note: You can only use EndNote XML files or
BiB files).
4- After choosing the references and adding them to your Library, you can close the References Library and insert them into your document. To do this, place the cursor in any location in the document where you want to insert the reference, go to the Library or the Document tab in the side panel, and click on the Insert button in the reference cards that you want to insert.
5- After inserting a reference, the number of it will appear where you placed the cursor.

Going back to iEnvision
Once you have completed your review, you can go back to doDOC by clicking on the button in the upper right corner of the doDOC Editor (Back to iEnvision), or just close the doDOC tab for your document. Once you are back in iEnvision, you will still need to provide your feedback to close your review. You won't need to attach any document, since doDOC and iEnvision communicate in the background and automatically send your document to iEnvision with all your changes and comments.
